Teachers´ Beliefs about bilingualism in the Colombian context: Challenges and realities

Teachers´ Beliefs about bilingualism in the Colombian context: Challenges and realities
I want to talk about this topic, because it is a factual and current fact that is ready to be approved in Colombia.I want to present which are the most important facts to considering when we like to present a project that can affect or not all the Colombian population.
Most of the countries’ policies have tried working around the globalization. This word has become “naturally” in the sense of being competitive and in relationship with the rest. But these policies of globalization don’t define or consider what the sub-developed countries have to do when they assume it. For example: how the poverty and the socio-economical state can disturb or affect these processes.
Before implanting a system or global methodology, it is needful to search and budget for some facts associated with this, like advantages, disadvantages, benefits, losses and near and distant consequences, etc. Due to it, a lot of sub developed countries have to assume the effects of the bad implantations.
In Colombia for example, we have to hear about laws that are trying to approve the becoming of this country as a bilingual, but it is needful, first at all, we have ask us, if it sound reasonable or not. For example: is Colombia prepared to face the socio-economic and cultural implications, impact or shock. It sound good, for the insertion of a foreign language like the English could represent the access or approach to the technology and communications (information, interaction, mass media, etc.), but it could represent the end of the Colombian culture.

  1. Hey mate! this is quite a good topic!
"But these policies of globalization don’t define or consider what the sub-developed countries have to do when they assume it. For example: how the poverty and the socio-economical state can disturb or affect these processes.". This is what I think I've wasted so much time studying in this program, most of the theory we have in courses (i.e. classroom reseach)is foreign and it is oriented towards solving foreign problems, it's all out of context, some teachers guide their courses in the most acritical way. Also, there are a few teachers, as it is the case in this course, who do think (not just do, blindly) and focus this foreign theory towards the real world.
Keep going with your text and good luck!

  2. I agree. All policies must be debated before being implanted, or even those who are not born yet will be affected.
Ethical issues are neglected in our daily life, decisions are made forgetting what are or will be their collateral effects.
I love languages but I love our country and its ethnical roots also.
I exhort you to keep your concern about how decisions can affect others' lifes.
    Respectfully
